About Unconventional Ventures

Unconventional Ventures is an early-stage impact VC based in Copenhagen. We back underrepresented founders building companies with real, measurable impact, and we hold ourselves to a high bar on how we assess and evidence that impact.

About the role

You'll work directly with our Head of Finance, Operations and Impact across the full investment lifecycle: assessing impact before we invest, helping portfolio companies build their impact after we invest, and developing the frameworks and policies that hold it all together. You'll prepare the analysis; we'll make the calls together, so you'll see exactly how impact judgments get made at a VC.

What you'll work on

Impact due diligence

  • Research the problem, the affected group and the evidence behind prospective companies' impact claims.
  • Prepare draft impact assessments using UV's impact framework, including evidence reviews, counterfactual analysis and impact risk mapping.
  • Support the impact sections of investment memos and prepare material for impact calls with founders.
  • Screen for ESG risks and sustainability considerations, such as Do No Significant Harm.

Post-investment impact work

  • Help portfolio companies set up impact KPIs, baselines and simple measurement routines.
  • Support our annual portfolio ESG and impact assessment by collecting evidence and preparing company and portfolio views.
  • Help prepare impact and ESG reporting for investors.

Frameworks, policies and ESG

  • Support regulatory and policy work, including SFDR readiness, building out our ESG management system, and updates to policies.

Who we're looking for

  • Studies: You're studying sustainability, economics, finance, business, development, public health, environmental science or a related field.
  • Analytical rigour: You can tell a strong claim from a well-told story, you're comfortable with evidence and numbers, and you're curious about what really drives change.
  • Clear writing: You can turn complex analysis into concise, structured documents.
  • Organisation: You can manage several workstreams at once and keep track of detail.
  • Judgement and discretion: You'll handle confidential information about founders and deals.
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with impact measurement (IMP five dimensions, IRIS+, Theory of Change), SFDR or other ESG regulation, or experience in a startup, impact fund or consultancy. Danish or Swedish is a plus, but English is our working language.

What you'll gain

You’ll gain practical insight into how an early-stage impact VC assesses impact before investing and supports it afterwards. Where relevant to your work, you’ll also take part in conversations with founders and the investment team, and you’ll contribute to the frameworks that shape how UV invests and reports.

Practicalities

  • Duration and start: Starting date as soon as possible, at least 6 months duration
  • Location and hours: Copenhagen office / hybrid, part-time, 20-30 hours per week
  • Compensation: hourly rate

How to apply

Submit your CV and a short note on why this role interests you by November 4th. Shortlisted candidates will complete a short case task: a one-page impact assessment of an anonymised company. We review applications on a rolling basis.
